A soft play party looks effortless on the day: little ones tumbling, parents with a coffee in hand, nobody chasing toddlers around a living room. That calm is usually the result of a few decisions made weeks earlier. Here’s the timeline that gets you there, plus a planner that builds your own dated checklist.

The decisions that matter most
1. Space before style
Measure the floor area you’ll actually use, plus doorways and stairs the equipment has to pass through. Soft play needs a flat, clear surface, and it’s best kept away from food tables, sharp furniture corners and fireplaces. Share the measurements when you book so the setup is planned around your room, not squeezed into it.
2. Ages on the guest list
Soft play shines for babies through preschoolers. If older siblings are coming, give them their own activity (a craft table, a game corner) so the play area stays at a safe pace for the little ones.
3. A simple flow for the day
- Arrival (15 min): shoes off, coats away, straight into play.
- Free play (45–60 min): the main event. Adults take turns supervising.
- Food and cake (30 min): at a separate table, then wash hands before more play.
- Last play and goodbyes (15–20 min): end on a high, not when everyone’s melting down.
4. Ground rules that keep it fun
- No shoes, no food and no drinks on the play equipment.
- Similar-sized kids play together. Toddlers get a turn without big kids.
- One named adult is always watching the play area.
